When dealing with insurance marketing keep in mind these three important tips when calling your leads, especially the first time you call them:

  • Do not allow yourself to become distracted. Refrain from eating or drinking. Never chew gum when you are on the phone. Don’t use speakerphone. Don’t browse the web or work on another project on your computer. Never watch television or start up a conversation with someone else.

The one and only thing you should be doing is taking down notes of the call. If you are not interested in the client they will notice, and will feel disrespected.

  • Do not use the hold feature. Remember, you are the one calling the customer. Therefore cutting the conversations short or placing them on hold could give the wrong impression. It wastes their time, makes you seem like you are only interested in making a sale, and sends an implied message that you feel your time is of greater importance than theirs.
  • Call at a reasonable time. Keep in mind the time zone in which your customer lives and whether your call may be coming in too early or too late in the day. Customers who get insurance sales calls in the middle of their dinner or before they wake in the morning, are not interested in hearing what you have to say, no matter how happy and knowledgeable you are.
